Canon Point: Kamen Rider Drive Saga: Mach/Heart (Canon) - Post-Airlocked (CRAU)
OU/AU/CRAU/OC: CRAU
Age: robot so age is vague, timeline wise my best guess is 16 chronologically, but mentally firmly Adult because. robot.
World Information: Earth, around the year 2014/2015, except around this time a group of robots called Roidmudes appeared with the ability to slow down time in localized areas and tried taking over the world. Then superhero stuff happened and things calmed down since all those robots are dead and gone.
Via CRAU shenanigans, current world is instead Persona 5 Earth, Tokyo, 2020. Still, you know, just Modern Earth Setting.
Personal History: Wiki Link
Personality: Throughout the show, Heart is shown as the leader of all the Roidmudes, our monsters of the week. While at first enigmatic, soon enough he shows exactly why the other Roidmudes follow him.
Perhaps his greatest and most important strength is Heart's compassion. He's kind to his fellow Roidmudes, treating them all fairly and as respectfully as he can. He considers each and every one of them, all 108, to be his friends. Even when others argue that it's necessary to sacrifice some for the greater good, Heart outright refuses this. Because that's not how anyone should treat their precious friends. No one he cares for is disposable and suggesting otherwise is a good way of pissing him off. And that's how he reacts when such a sacrifice would be for the greater good. Pointless cruelty is even less acceptable to him. And nothing angers him like disrespecting the lives of other Roidmudes. The first time we see Heart truly angry, it's when Shinnosuke calls a Roidmude he killed "a villain".
Maybe it's to be expected that someone with the name Heart would be so kind. Considering that it would be so simple for him to only see the other Roidmudes as means to an end, the fact that his care for them is so genuine is noteworthy. And this leads to some fierce loyalty. Are you Heart's friend? Because now he will do all he can for you. Though he doesn't get the chance, it's clear that Heart cares enough for his loved ones to die for them, if he felt it was necessary.
Even when someone he cares about chooses a different path, he doesn't hold it against them. When Chase decides to switch sides, becoming a Kamen Rider, Heart respects his choice and is clearly hurt when Chase dies later on. He never forgets his friends, ever, even they become his enemies.
He's a forgiving soul, too. Even when Medic crosses the line and kills other Roidmudes, he decides against hating her for it when it's obvious she's scared he'll reject her now. Instead he actually comforts her, hugging her and simply telling her not to sacrifice their friends anymore. What a guy.
Now, for the most part this kindness is offered to his friends, but that doesn't mean he's unkind to others. Far from it. Though Heart has plenty of reason to dislike humans, he's, for the most part, very respectful towards them. Polite, even. Even to his enemies. With... one exception, but that exception is the guy who tortured him for shits and giggles, so you can't really blame him. His respectful behavior goes hand-in-hand with his sense of honor. Throughout the show, it's brought up that Heart could very easily take care of the Kamen Rider foiling his plans by just... taking him out in his civilian life. But no, he won't do that. Hell, later when he has Shinnosuke in front of him, injured, Heart outright refuses to fight him, telling him to relax. Because he's not so barbaric as to fight him when he can't even transform.
Instead, during this time he has a calm discussion with someone who, at this point, is his greatest enemy, even managing to inspire him. Which is another thing to note; Heart is very level headed. He's almost always calm as can be, not letting himself get carried away and carefully thinking things through. He's even like this amongst his more... energetic and eccentric friends, so it's clear he's easygoing as well. And I mean it, seriously, his friends are fucking weird, he never so much as bats an eye. But then, as the leader of the Roidmudes, he has to stay calm so he can plan out their moves. Which he does throughout the show and into the specials. It's even shown in his own special that he's not just a good planner, but not so bad at deduction either. He takes on the role of detective and fits right in, his assistance proving vital in solving a case.
Though obviously it takes more than that to lead a revolution. Which is... basically what he did, even if it didn't work out. Heart is very strong. Not just physically, obviously that goes without saying considering he's a robot with a special form for combat and skilled in battle even without transforming. No, Heart is strong in his will, too. Through all the hardships in the show, he never abandons his goal to create a world where his species can live how he wants them to. His ideals matter greatly to him and he always keeps going. Giving up is just... not his way. Even when there are barely even any members of his species left, he keeps fighting. Even as he is dying, he keeps fighting, refusing to just lie down and die quietly.
Then, of course, there are his flaws. Because despite being beloved by his friends and respected by his enemies, Heart is, of course, far from perfect.
The most obvious of his flaws, one that keeps popping up again and again, is the fact that Heart has some... trouble understanding other viewpoints. Not that they exist or that people can have differing opinions, of course not, he gets that. But more from a... theoretical standpoint, a lot of the time. When some Roidmudes don't follow his advice and try to attain evolution through more aggressive means, he doesn't get why they do this, failing to understand their frustration. And while sometimes he says he understands why humans view Roidmudes the way they do, as I said earlier, he becomes furious when one of them is called a villain... even though said Roidmude kidnapped a child and used him as a hostage.
This is also shown in that he expects others to be as loyal to him as he is to them. So when anyone goes against him or betrays him, it's a genuine shock to him, something he never saw coming. It's somewhat of a blind spot for him. His trust might not be handed out to just anyone, but when he gives it he becomes essentially too trusting.
Speaking of not seeing things, Heart can be a bit... oblivious. It's clear to anyone who has ever met Brain and Medic that they're both obsessed with Heart, very obviously in love with him. Heart... doesn't really seem to notice. Oh, sure, he cares for them deeply and there's definitely tension with him and Medic, but he never shows any sign of truly understanding how deep their affection for him goes. Or... the fact that it causes a lot of problems between Medic and Brain. He actually has the gall to ask Brain why he and Medic can't get along, when it's painfully obvious it's because they both love Heart and are jealous. Seriously Heart it's not fucking rocket science, how bad at understanding social dynamics can you be.
But enough about that mess, let's talk about Heart's ideals. Which are great! He's so passionate about them! Except, uh. Well, first of all, there's the obvious fact that in working to create a better world for his kind, he is kind of trying to overthrow humanity. Then there's the fact that while, yes, he's respectful when he deals with people, he'd never hurt his friends, and he'd never harm people for no reason, that doesn't mean he can't be ruthless in his pursuit of his goals. Gonna just gesture about that bit about the kidnapped kid again, because uh. Yeah. Human lives aren't quite as important to him.
But even more than that, while Heart is very intelligent and reasonable, that doesn't mean he's not damn stubborn. He sees fighting as the only way for Roidmudes to evolve and, thus, their only option. Shinnosuke actually asks if they can't resolve this peacefully, but no, Heart dismisses the possibility completely. He refuses to find a more peaceful path.
While this isn't entirely his fault, since there was some sabotage involved when Roidmudes were created, his philosophy probably didn't help them. Because it's only at the very end that he works together with the heroes, when they have a common enemy. By this point many of his kind are dead. And at the very end, Heart remains as the last of his kind, before dying as well.
Speaking of Roidmudes evolving, though, let's get into Heart's evolution. Because all Roidmudes attain their super evolution through a negative emotion... except Heart's is joy. Which is a good emotion, isn't it? Well. No, not exactly. Because what finally triggers his evolution is the joy he feels during battle. Which isn't surprising considering we see this earlier in the series as well. What makes this a weakness is the fact that this joy he feels can cause him to get a little... carried away. When Heart is at his most emotional and passionate, he becomes reckless, caring less for his own well being. It almost gets him killed early on and hurt badly enough that he needs Medic to heal him, which takes at least several days.
Then there's that honor of him. Which, again, is great, but can sometimes be a bit of an... obstacle. Because again, he could've killed Shinnosuke easily by tracking him down to where he works and ending his life before he has a chance to transform, except he doesn't do this because that's now how he wants to win. Except he's fighting for his whole kind here and Shinnosuke, as Kamen Rider Drive, is killing his friends. So while it's great that he has his principles and sticks to them, sometimes it can cause him to take actions that aren't beneficial to him or those he cares for. He's just... not very pragmatic.
CRAU developments: Heart's time on the Fantasy Sweet was... troubled, to put it lightly. Kidnapped, memories wiped to a point, and given the title Champion of Compassion
With his memories taken from him, he did not remember managing to befriend humans or the fact that he was the only one of his kind left. So while he was always kind to his fellow Champions, he tried to stay distant from them, feeling like an outsider. But, well. That was never going to work out. He couldn't stop himself from caring and befriending the others; first and foremost growing closer to Rhys, his roommate - and being quite surprised when it was pointed out to him that, yes, of course they were friends. Which is how Heart ended up with his second first human friend... Memory loss, you know.
The trials hit very hard as well. The first trial was maybe the earliest sign that he was a fool to think he could keep his distance from the others, as he had a very emotional reaction to Mai being revealed as the culprit, being very sympathetic to her situation and regretful about her fate. The trials never got any easier... and one in particular harder than any before. The fourth trial of the season just about broke him. Not just due to losing Angel and Rhys, but watching Jack in Rhys' body and then watching Rhys die without being able to do anything about it...
Not to mention right after this he got to remember that he was the last member of his race, so yikes. It's no surprise that around this time Heart distanced himself more again, isolating himself in his room and not seeking anyone out. Which got a little better after the next week and everyone managed to save Choromatsu. Some real closeness happened right after that, involving a certain blonde witch, if you catch my drift.
...Which is honestly a miracle, not gonna lie, because Heart can be rather oblivious and you need to be very direct with him. The boy does not always get flirting, even when it's not subtle.
For the rest of the season and after the end of it, Heart was a strange mix of close and distant from the rest of the group. Because everyone was important to him - they were all he had left now, after all - but at the same time everything from R2 was difficult to recover from. In a way he fell back on being the way he was while leading the other Roidmudes. Sure, he didn't have to lead anyone this time, but the attitude was similar; when you're busy being strong for the sake of everyone else, you don't have time to fall apart.
A problem that only worsened over time, and especially during the final intermission, was the way Heart started feeling more and more useless. It built a lot on everything that happened back home, as well. It turns out that consistently losing people with no way to ever save them really gets to a guy and the whole thing with Choro was more of a band-aid on a gaping wound than anything else. And everyone getting captured by the network again, well, that just made the wound even worse. Not that he regretted trying to go back for those who had been captured, nor going out there in the first place. Leaving friends behind was never on the table, no matter how much of a trap the whole thing had been.
Then season five began and, for a little while, this was all gone.
The kind, polite distance was back once more, but it didn't really last long this time either. Heart was in a much better place to accept becoming friends with humans, as he had all his memories from home and... well, when the memories of season 3 started coming back piece by piece, that only sped up the process. It was much easier to let himself care about everyone and call them his friends. And his reactions to the trial became much more heated, as this time Heart was much, much more spiteful. Instead of breaking down, he got angrier, directing a lot of hatred towards their Overseer.
That spite, combined with a lot of bitterness about their situation and all the stress involved, also helped to make Heart a lot more sarcastic than he'd been before. Because boy, was there stress. And Heart trying to stay cool slowly became more difficult for him throughout the season. Rather than breaking as he had during season 3, Heart tried to power through it, which... was rather draining for him. But he was still determined to make it through everything, for everyone else's sake if nothing else.
Then the incident with Junpei and the elevator happened and he realized that wasn't going to happen. If failing to save his friends was getting him down, accidentally causing the death of one was just about the final straw. Even so, Heart just isn't the type to just give up quietly. Accepting that he was going to die, he used the magnet Junpei had prepared to attack PAL's robot body during his execution... which didn't entirely work out, but he managed to damage the body quite a bit before he died. The only way Heart knows how to go out is while fighting.
Everything that happened took a big toll on him, of course... And it's only when he got to deadland that Heart finally let himself be more vulnerable. In a way, being broken down constantly was necessary to allow him to finally open up and let people in more. His bonds with Ardyn and the rest of the Kingsglaive became stronger as well, to the point that he became a part of the group himself... before he even knew it, because some people just love springing things on others.
Patience isn't really one of Heart's virtues and his time in the simulation was very restless, because he does hate being forced to sit around and do nothing. But his faith in the other Champions - his friends - was always strong and he knew that he could count on them to put an end to everything. Faith which was rewarded when they did just that.
Now alive again and free of both the simulation and the network, Heart joined the rest of Ardyn's glaive as they settled down in Persona 5's Japan.
Key themes: What it means to be a person. Finding out what makes you happy. Keep fighting until the very end... and probably beyond that.
Main Motivation: His friends. Literally he'll do anything for them. It's just that Persona comic. You became friends with Heart! Heart will now die for you.
Skills: Roidmude: First and foremost, Heart, as a mechanical lifeform, has a bunch of advantages that humans don't have. He doesn't need to eat, sleep, or do any of the things humans have to in order to survive. He's also more durable, since his body isn't really organic. Furthermore, it means that destroying his body won't necessarily kill him outright. So long as Heart's core survives, he can live on.
Copying: Unlikely to come up, but as a Roidmude, Heart can mimic someone's appearance and even memories just by copying their data via physical contact.
Transformation: Heart is capable of transforming into a much scarier looking form, which is far stronger and more durable than his default human form.
Strength: Whether transformed or not, Heart's strength is far above that of a human. When transformed, he can easily throw cars around like it's no big deal.
Heat Absorption: Heart is capable of absorbing heat into himself by touching the source and can prevent other things from overheating this way.
Data Mimicry: While in his core form, Heart can transform into data to either phase through solid objects or travel through technology.
Dead Zone: A power very much unique to him. By building up a lot of energy in his heart, Heart can push himself way past his limits, becoming even more powerful. Doing this causes him to overheat and lose control of himself - if pushed too far, it requires outside intervention to stop him. This can have... explosive results. Literally.
Kingsglaive: Thanks to Ardyn, Heart has access to a few extra powers.
Armiger: Like the rest of the 'glaive, Heart has access to Ardyn's special hammerspace inventory. Always handy.
Warping: By throwing an object, Heart can quickly teleport to its location. The range being, of course, limited to how far he can throw something and limited to line of sight.
Elemancy: In theory Heart has access to elemental magic thanks to Ardyn, your Final Fantasy Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard spells - i.e. Fire, Fira, Firaga - but he has no experience with this and doesn't especially use it.
Kamen Rider: Using the Drive Driver, Shift Brace, and Shift Heartron, Heart has the ability to transform into a special armored form, aka a Kamen Rider. Like this, he's much stronger than he usually is. A downside is that the form uses up an awful lot of energy, which is extremely dangerous and fatal to Heart with the technology as is.
Viral Combination: Thanks to the cores of Heart, Brain, and Medic having powered up the Shift Heartron, Heart can access a few extra abilities. Using Medic's power, he can use a golden tendril to restrict and shock enemies. Using Brain's power, he can use a liquid, toxic tentacle to poison and similarly restrain enemies. And using his own core's power, Heart still has access to the Dead Zone even as a Rider.
Nanomachines: So thanks to Airlocked, Heart got pumped full of nanites. Which I guess worked out since this robot does have blood, of sorts. These speed up healing a bit and also act as a handy universal translator.
Regular Stuff: On a more reasonable level, Heart is, of course, a very capable hand-to-hand fighter even without the benefit of super strength. He's also reasonably intelligent and took pretty well to being a detective in Drive Saga, showing a lot of skill in that area. He's also a skilled driver. And, being a robot and all, he does have some experience with tech - he's no expert, but firsthand experience is still helpful.
Item: A handmade bookmark, made with colored card stock and a pressed red zinnia flower. There's a message on the back:
Red zinnias stand for steadfastness, familial ties, and the steady beating of a heart. Azaleas can be used as symbols for gratitude and a wish for the person receiving them to take care of themselves.
Sample: Airlocked thread, Airlock CRAU TDM for another game, because sometimes you get enabled very suddenly and don't have time to get some new samples
